01 / Matrix
Start with the hardware.
Match your wiring: up to 8 rows × 10 columns. Changing dimensions removes assignments outside the new matrix. The reference map gives you a starting point.
02 / Assign
Choose a key.
Letters follow your device's setterm keyboard us|de setting. The grid shows HID key names. Keymap reference →
03 / Save
Take your map with you.
Preview mapping JSON
Choose the matching keyboard profile before importing JSON. Import uses that profile and the matrix dimensions above; mapping files contain no profile identity or hardware dimensions. Unlisted keys use the firmware's built-in map, which may differ if you compiled custom defaults.
04 / Use
Load it on your device.
Connect the keyboard and use expansion status to find the board's named I²C bus. Copy the downloaded JSON to the path below on mounted device storage. Run the attach command only if this keyboard is not already attached as keyboard0.
The firmware needs the selected keyboard driver and source keymap service; the full flavor includes them on supported boards. Runtime mappings last until detach or reboot. Load the saved file in a startup script to reuse it, or compile the same JSON as firmware defaults following the source keymap reference.
